Are you considering becoming a sperm donor in the Bellevue area? We understand that you may have some questions before getting started. As experts in the field of sperm donation, we’ve compiled a list of the top questions asked by potential donors to help you better understand the program.
Can I donate just once, or is there a requirement to continue donating?
Sperm donors play a crucial role in providing family-building options. Given that treatments can often require multiple attempts before a successful pregnancy, we ask donors to commit to the program for at least six months. While donating at least once per week is encouraged, donors can donate up to three times per week, earning compensation for each donation.
Will I be notified if someone uses my donations for treatments?
We do not automatically notify donors when intended parents select their donations or when pregnancies and births occur. However, donors are welcome to reach out and inquire, and we will provide them with all the available information.
Will I have contact with any parents or donor-conceived children in the future?
As an Open ID Cryobank, we offer donor-conceived offspring the opportunity for a one-time contact with their donor. This can look like a phone call, video chat, email, or whatever all the parties are comfortable with at the time. We will facilitate and arrange the mutually agreed contact when the time comes.
What are the benefits of donating?
Aside from the satisfaction of supporting families in need, there are several benefits to the program:
– Compensation of $100 per donation.
– Regular STI testing and physicals.
– Flexible scheduling.
– Genetic carrier screening for 514 conditions.
Can I choose who receives my donations?
Donors entering the program are as classified by the FDA as anonymous donors, meaning they won’t know the recipients of their donations. However, individuals can opt to be Directed Donors for friends, which involves a different process. Let us know if you are interested in becoming a Directed Donor for someone you personally know!
Can my partner accompany me to the donation room?
For the sake of maintaining donation integrity and minimizing contamination, only the donor is permitted in the donation room.
What if I move out of town?
If you relocate near one of our lab locations in Seattle, WA. San Diego, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Denver, CO. or Las Vegas, NV, you can continue donating. Our donor coordinator can assist you in transferring to another site.
What if I am disqualified from the application process?
The primary reason for disqualification is poor semen analysis results. While this doesn’t necessarily indicate infertility, we maintain high standards due to the nature of treatments. Donors can work on lifestyle adjustments to improve semen quality and re-apply. Disqualified individuals are welcome to participate in our referral program, earning a bonus for every accepted donor referral.
