If you are thinking about becoming one of the donors in our program, you might feel a bit nervous about the process and have questions about what it is like being in the program. Here we’ll share what some of our donors had to say about their experiences and we’ll go over the application process and benefits.
The donor application process starts with an online application. Once you have completed your application you can then stop by the lab during open hours to submit a semen sample for analysis. Until you have completed the application process and are fully accepted into the program, all donations are discarded. You can do a few things to help prepare for the first visit and semen analysis, and the most important is to be abstinent for at least 48 hours.
The next steps in the application process include completing medical and family medical histories, lab testing for infectious diseases, and a full physical examination with our on-staff physician.
Every donation is a chance to earn $100. Earning the full amount depends on semen quality and infectious disease testing results, which makes the donation useable for treatment. The Donor Coordinator will keep you informed about your donation results and answer any questions you may have.
Donors will receive physical exams every 6 months and routine STI testing while actively donating. This is a great way to keep tabs on your own health. Additionally, when entering the program donors receive genetic carrier screening for 514 genetic conditions. These are genetic conditions that could potentially be inherited by any genetic offspring and is great information for you to have about your own health.
Donors are welcome to provide donations up to 3 times per week and are encouraged to visit at least once per week. However, you make your own schedule and can decide the best time of day to visit. We also see donors leave on vacation and take a few weeks off from donation.
Further, there are 2 locations that are available for you to visit. You are welcome to visit each location as it suits your needs.
Donations go to provide treatment options for people going through fertility procedures to become parents. This could be someone struggling with male factor infertility, lesbian couples, or an individual who does not have a sperm source. In any case, they cannot do this without you.
