A man’s prostate serves an important function in the body. Located between the bladder and rectum, which is why it’s examined rectally, it has many different types of cells, including smooth, involuntary muscle, and secretory cells. The fluid produced by the prostate makes up the seminal fluid in semen as well as enzymes, fats, and proteins (but not sperm cells).
Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men. Fortunately, it’s treatable when caught early, which is why regular prostate checks are so important. Semen analysis is another effective preventative measure because it can catch seminal fluid deficiencies that contribute to decreased sperm counts, decreased sperm volume, or other issues. It can also test whether your prostate is functioning properly or if it’s contributing to problems such as erectile function.
As a sperm donor in our program, you’ll get a free physical exam every six months, including semen analysis. This gives you valuable information about your own reproductive health. And even after you retire from the program, you’ll continue to get annual physicals for life at our clinic.
