Due to popular media, sperm banks often get a negative reputation. The truth is sperm donors are a specific group of tissue donors that give meaningful tissue donations to families who need it. Without sperm donation, many families like two-mom families, or men diagnosed with infertility have few options for family building. We are clearing up some myths and mysteries surrounding sperm donation here at Bellevue Sperm Bank.

Bellevue Sperm Bank Is A Medical Office

Sperm Banks runs like any other medical or dental office. The lab is governed by the FDA as a tissue bank and practices HIPAA privacy laws. The staff is professional, and you can rest assured that you will be treated with respect.

Donors check in using a fingerprint scanner and then will be provided with sperm safe lubricant and brought to a donation room. Something unique to our clinic is the TVs with access to adult materials, which you would not find at a dentist’s office.

The Donors Who Visit Are Regular Guys

The amazing people who join the donor program at Bellevue Sperm Bank come in all shapes and sizes. Donors are all of different ethnicities, heights, weights, and ages. Donors must be between 18 and 39 years old, but in Bellevue, the donor program is mostly working professionals.

Each donor goes through an application process to join the program that includes STI testing, counseling, genetic screening and is seen by our doctor. The process can take a couple of weeks, so it is not possible for anyone to walk in and start donating on the same day.

You can read more about what donors have to say about being in the program.

Although donors are compensated, it takes an exceptional person to join this program. Donations are life-changing for individuals who need them to start their families.

People Who Need Sperm Banks Are Regular People

People who rely on sperm donation to become parents come from all over the world. Most commonly LGBTQ+ families and single moms by choice are looking to use donor sperm in treatments to become parents. However, Men who have been diagnosed with infertility also need donor sperm to start a family as well. They can be diagnosed with infertility due to something at birth, injury, or have undergone medical treatments that impact their reproductive health, such as chemotherapy.

Because the individuals and couples who rely on donor sperm are all of different shapes and sizes it is crucial that the donors in our program reflect them. Often individuals are looking for a donor with similar characteristics to themselves or their family. It can be hard for a parent to be mistaken for a caregiver instead because their offspring do not have the same features as them. For these reasons and more, it is critical that more men who can, consider becoming donors.

If you think you have what it takes to become a donor, you can take the first step and apply online today. If you have questions about joining the program you can always reach out to our Donor Coordinator for assistance at (206) 588-1484 or info@bellevuespermbank.com.
